SnapTrade

Product Engineer.

SnapTrade builds infrastructure for developers building investing products. Our APIs connect apps to brokerage accounts, giving developers access to investment data and trading without building and maintaining each brokerage integration themselves.

Thousands of developers build with SnapTrade. We support more than 50 brokerages, millions of connected accounts, and tens of billions of dollars in connected assets.

We're a small team backed by Y Combinator. The work spans API design, developer experience, and the reliability of systems that other people's products depend on.

One title. A few different hats.

Everyone on our engineering team is a Product Engineer. People have different strengths, but we all take responsibility for more than writing code.

  • We talk to customers. Understanding the problem and deciding what to build are part of the job.
  • We work across products. You'll move between interfaces, APIs, data, and infrastructure as the work requires.
  • We use data to make decisions. We look at how people use what we build and whether a change actually helped.
  • We operate what we ship. Deployment, debugging production issues, and sharing on-call responsibility are part of owning the product.

You don't need to know everything. You do need to get comfortable with the stack and be willing to learn the parts a problem takes you into.

Curiosity goes a long way.

We like working with people who are curious about the customer, thoughtful about the product, and able to take an idea through to working software.

That includes choosing a sensible scope, explaining tradeoffs, asking for help when needed, and changing your mind when the evidence points somewhere else. We want to understand how you approach the work, as well as what you've built.

Start with something you've built.

Build a small app using SnapTrade and share it with us. If there's a potential fit, we'll invite you to a deep dive. Your app will be the starting point: we'll explore your choices, look under the hood, and talk about what you'd improve.

AI is changing how software gets built, and we want our interview process to reflect that. A working app lets us see how you choose a problem, shape the experience, and make sure it works. Those are the skills you would use here every day. Use your AI tools. Just be ready to explain and stand behind what you submit.

We'd like both sides to learn more than they would from a series of abstract interview questions. You'll get a feel for our APIs and developer experience, and we'll get a feel for how you build. Bring your questions and feedback, too: this is also your chance to decide whether you'd enjoy working at SnapTrade.

How to apply

  1. Create a SnapTrade Commercial account.

Sign up for a Commercial account. It's free for testing.

  2. Build an OAuth app.

Follow the OAuth app guide and build something useful. Pick a problem that interests you and keep the scope focused. AI tools are welcome.

  3. Put it on the internet.

Host your app publicly so we can try it. A free hosting plan is fine; you don't need a custom domain.

    • Render: free web services for your backend and free static hosting. Free web services sleep when idle, so the first load can be slow.
    • Vercel: a free Hobby plan for personal, non-commercial projects, with frontend hosting and server functions.

Keep your OAuth client secret on the backend. Follow your host's free-plan limits and use the deployed callback URL in your OAuth configuration.

  4. Apply below.

Share your name, email, LinkedIn profile or résumé, and the URL of your app.

  5. We'll review it and follow up.

We'll review your app and background, then reach out to schedule a deep dive if there's a potential fit. We'll talk through your decisions, explore how the app works, and leave time for your questions about SnapTrade.

This is an ongoing invitation, not a promise of an open role. We'll explore next steps when there's a potential fit.
